Abstract

KOHEN, Micaela  and  MEINARDI, Elsa. School Situations in the Spotlight:Contributions to Teacher Training in Comprehensive Sexual Education. RMIE [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.71, pp.1047-1072. ISSN 1405-6666.

In this paper we make a contribution to teacher training in comprehensive sex education, understanding sexuality beyond genitalia and reproduction, contemplating power relationships, identities, emotions and pleasure. Considering the importance of the hidden currículum in the transmission of sexism and the reproduction of gender inequalities, we developed a device to work with educational interventions in emerging conflicts at school, focusing on those that relate to gender and sexualities. For the implementation of the device we formed a community of practice of teachers from different disciplines of a middle school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The device is based on image theater, a type of oppressed theater that allows us to treat school situations from the body, exposing dimensions of sexuality often silenced in school. From one scene proposed, it was possible that teachers reflect on the tensions and meanings attributed to pregnancy in the school system. In a broader sense, we propose that this type of analysis can be a way to reflect on the roles and power relationships provinding the teachers with new tools for situations that bounce into school life.
