Abstract

VEGA LOPEZ, Norma Alicia et al. Validation of the Measurement Scale of Educational Practices of Comparative Reading. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.83, pp.1077-1107.  Epub Apr 23, 2020. ISSN 1405-6666.

The aim of this study is to report on the design and validation of the Measurement Scale of Educational Practices of Comparative Reading, in order to characterize the educational practices of reading comprehension from multiple sources (also called comparative or intertextual reading) as stated by secondary school teachers. The participants were 653 teachers from 75 schools of different types (general secondary school, technical secondary school, tele-secondary school, and private secondary school) in the states of Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo, Mexico. The instrument consists of five sub-scales: self-efficacy, planning, demands, comprehension strategies, and teaching strategies. The scale was validated by independent raters, factorial analysis, and the analysis of reliability, which resulted in good psychometric properties for all sub-scales. The instrument can be used to research the teaching of comparative reading.

Keywords : reading comprehension; language teaching; measurement scales; teachers, secondary school.
