Abstract
IBARROLA, María de. Job Training in High Schools. National Panorama. RMIE [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.84, pp.29-59. Epub June 19, 2020. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article describes the characteristics of job training in the context of Mexico's high schools: the historical background of the corresponding political decisions, the creation of institutions derived from the three reforms since 1970, and the gradual configuration of a widely diverse and unequal system. As a function of the different kinds of high schools, the analysis compares the most recent basic data (2018), by geographic distribution and type of school, of more than 18,000 schools, their enrollment, teachers, job training curriculum in terms of extended professional competencies, and the vocational programs that students are offered. Also studied are student trajectories, dropout rates, graduation rates, certification, and future opportunities for graduates.
