Abstract

BERNAL REYES, Luis Enrique. CONALEP. Development of a Strategy for Vocational Training. RMIE [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.84, pp.121-152.  Epub June 19, 2020. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article addresses the historical development of Mexico's Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (CONALEP) in terms of its institutional and curricular evolution. It also examines the linking strategies that are implemented and the effect of training on students and their experience. A documentary study and 20 interviews emphasize CONALEP 's pioneering role in introducing multiple innovations in high school education and reveal how CONALEP continues to provide excellent job training in spite of the existing tension between academic education and vocational training. The study focuses on the potential of off-site training, which is not reflected in teaching practices, and the way that CONALEP guides students toward specific jobs and establishes the foundation for their job performance.
