Current educational reforms in countries like Spain and Mexico are oriented to new methodologies in which the digital media occupy a prominent place, due to rapid socio-technological progress. This study seeks to understand how the leadership of the educational authorities influences the processes of integrating these technologies into schools in both countries. To this aim, four cases are studied through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary analysis. The body of data was analyzed with the Atlas.ti program. The results reveal the importance of the role of the educational authorities, especially management teams, in which e-competent leadership is key for integrating technologies at school and in the classroom, and for taking advantage of their potential.
