Abstract

GALAK, Eduardo; PEREYRA, Martín  and  ORBUCH, Iván. The Physical Education Fest in Argentina from 1939 to 1944: The Massification of a Government Strategy for Education and Propaganda. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.90, pp.911-934.  Epub Oct 11, 2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

For more than forty years and in almost uninterrupted form, the organization and management of Physical Education Fests can be considered as the most massive, lasting, and meaningful public policy for education in Argentina. This article is centered on the analysis of discourse, printed articles, and norms that were created and consolidated from 1939 to 1944. The review explains the state's interest in going into schools in order to project throughout society the modern physical and moral ideal that was to be acquired by the Argentine population. Viewing the human body from a celebratory perspective in a context marked by authoritarianism since the coup d'état of 1930, implied granting centrality to physical education and postulating the Fest as an effective platform of government propaganda.

Keywords : physical education; ethics; authoritarianism; schooling; history of education.
