Abstract

CABERO-ALMENARA, Julio; BARROSO-OSUNA, Julio; LLORENTE-CEJUDO, Carmen  and  PALACIOS-RODRIGUEZ, Antonio. Validation of European Framework of Digital Competence through Structural Equations. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.92, pp.185-208.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to study the viability of the European Union's DigCompEdu model, which suggests that teachers' digital competence depends on professional commitment, pedagogical competencies, and the ability to develop students' digital competence. The method of analysis was based on the modeling of structural equations with a PLS (partial least squares) approach. A questionnaire was completed by 2,262 teachers from nine public universities in Andalusia, Spain. The results show the effectiveness of the European model, the possibilities offered by the methodology of structural equations, and the validation of an instrument to analyze teachers' digital competence in the university context. In this area of study, the proposed model can serve to define itineraries of teacher training, establish selection criteria, and analyze the professional development needs of university professors.

Keywords : digital competencies; analytical model; quantitative methodology; teacher training.
