Abstract

GARCIA-RUBIO, Juan. Construction of the Professional Identity of Secondary Teachers in Spain during Early Training. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.94, pp.751-778.  Epub Aug 22, 2022. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to analyze the initial process of Spain's secondary teachers in constructing their identity, during their participation in the master's program in education and practice teaching. A biographical/narrative approach was used to analyze the accounts of 160 students in the master's program at Universidad de Valencia in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The focus was on the positive and negative qualities of their training, and their experience in practice teaching. Numerous traits of ideal and non-ideal teachers were identified during the two stages. The conclusion was that identifiable changes occur in teachers' identity that support their transition to teachers as they set aside their role as students.
