Abstract

RODRIGUEZ OTERO, Luis Manuel  and  CUBILLOS VEGA, Carla. Human Rights and Social Work: An Analysis from the Academic Guidelines of Mexico's Public Universities. RMIE [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.97, pp.487-514.  Epub June 09, 2023. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this study is to explore the inclusion of human rights in the curriculum of social work degrees in Mexico's universities. Through a mixed quantitative and qualitative methodology, we analyzed the content of the degree program's academic guidelines. The presence of elements that intersect human rights, and explicit reference to these elements in the program description suggest that professional training is based on a view of education as a means to spread a culture of human rights, emancipation, and social transformation. Most of the universities offer a specific human rights course, yet course contents do not have the required components for integrated education in human rights.

Keywords : higher education; human rights; social work; Mexico.
