Abstract

MONTERO MENDOZA, Elda et al. Tuberculosis en la Sierra Santa Marta, Veracruz: un análisis desde la perspectiva de género. Pap. poblac [online]. 2001, vol.7, n.29, pp.225-245. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper explores gender perceptions and responses to disease. Emphasis is placed on the ways in which women and men seek medical attention and undertake treatment. The study was conducted among female and male patients who have been diagnosed with tuberculosis by health institutions of the Sierra de Santa Marta, Veracruz. The analysis was done from a gender perspective. The results indicate that there are no significant differences between women and men regarding their perceptions of disease. However, gender distinctions were identified with respect to the process of searching for medical attention, the quality of attention that women and men received and their success in treatment.
