Abstract

CISNEROS, José Luis. Aproximaciones para una teoría de la violencia urbana. Pap. poblac [online]. 2001, vol.7, n.30, pp.205-232. ISSN 2448-7147.

The manifestation of the different and multiple realities related to violence that exist in a city such as ours, both hides and makes it difficult to understand the association of factors that make it emerge. In the present article, we will make an attempt to point out what some of the peculiarities that obstruct the crystallization of urban violence are. For this purpose, we will show the different perspectives from wich the explanations of violence have been built up. We will not set aside the importance of public space and every day life in the city, since this is a pillaging context that in tum, conditions, produces, and reproduces a violence cultural context itself. Hence, both space and dynamics of the city can structure and condition someone towards the perception and production of meanings related to violence. In the city, fear and violence are two contrasting aspects, wich relationship pertains to the same coin in the urban imagination.
