Abstract

QUILODRAN, Julieta. Family, and its references in transition. Pap. poblac [online]. 2003, vol.9, n.37, pp.51-82. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper analyzes the influence of the demographic transition process in the formation of families. The case of Mexico and Japan illustrate the changes in the life path of women: older ages at first marriage, less offspring with higher schooling, and a longer expected time to share with their partner after retirement. The analysis of nuptiality indicators for some developed countries and Latin America shows an increment in conceptual unions, divorces and out of marriage offspring. Mexico can be described as a country at the end of its demographic transition, where changes still do not reach the level of developed countries.
