Abstract
MUNOZ JUMILLA, Alma Rosa. Familiar remittances before economic growth in Mexico, 1950-2002. Pap. poblac [online]. 2004, vol.10, n.42, pp.9-35. ISSN 2448-7147.
The present study focuses from a long term perspective, to the analysis of the historical tendency of remittances and its relationship with the economic growth. In the last decade, studies on familiar remittances have greatly increased, because the migratory processes have taken a great dimension as a result of the globalization processes resulting as well in a vertiginous growth in the income by concept of remittances which is determined by the behavior of the migratory flows. The GDP rate of growth calculation and the remittances has lead to us to the establishment of several hypothesis such as the fact that the remittances growth is bound to the economic cycles behavior, acting the opposite. It is managed to verify that as a result of the recurrent crises that, since the seventies, have accompanied the economic development of the country, the remittances have increased. This is explained by the fact that economic crises have accelerated international migratory flows.
