Abstract

ALVES, José Eustáquio Diniz  and  CAVENAGHI, Suzana. Methodological and conceptual issues on household, family, and housing conditions. Pap. poblac [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.43, pp.105-131. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper deals with methodological and conceptual issues related to household, family, and housing conditions utilizing demographic census data for Brazil and United States for the year 2000 and The National Population, Households and Dwellings for Argentina carried out in 2001, pointing out to issues on cross country comparability. First we present a revision and evaluate the types of questions available on family and household in the three censuses. We compare data on selected variables and discuss the main conceptual components that utilize family units and households in the definition of housing shortage and housing needs, which are also often compared cross countries. We present some methodologies on housing shortage and unmet basic needs.

Keywords : family; household; housing shortage; housing conditions.
