Abstract
MOGUEL VIVEROS, Reyna and MORENO ANDRADE, Sandra Urania. Social strategies: from survival to contingency. Pap. poblac [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.46, pp.139-159. ISSN 2448-7147.
This article initiates a discussion concerning the concept of social strategies, aiming at its theoretical and methodological inconsistencies and the form in which these can be approached from the sociological critiques to Weber's classic assumptions of social action. It is observed that the concept has suffered changes that have led it to support a society's modern neo liberal perspective where «poor» people can organize themselves against the restrictions imposed by the social structure, participating only as an anonymous civil society (domestic unit) by means of designing several social strategies that allow them to 'survive' or 'reproduce' itself. This perspective can be reversed with the notion of "provoked contingencies within the State's, market, and environmental deterioration globalized spheres".
Keywords : social survival; poverty and contingency.
