Abstract

DI CESARE, Mariachiara  and  RODRIGUEZ VIGNOLI, Jorge. Analysis micro of adolescent fertility determinants: case of Brazil and Colombia. Pap. poblac [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.48, pp.107-140. ISSN 2448-7147.

The analysis is based on the 1996 Brazilian DHS and the 2000 Colombian DHS data. The methodology applied is the logistic regression for the analysis of the determinants of adolescent fertility. Results show the higher vulnerability of the socio-economically weaker groups and the interaction between proximate determinants of fertility and socio-economic variables. Nevertheless the education loses its effect controlling for socio-economic level, and the place of residence (urban-rural) does not affect the probability to be adolescent mother. This suggests that adolescent fertility in both countries is not a traditional behaviour, but a behaviour connected with the secularization process.

Keywords : adolescent fertility; social vulnerability; education; public policies; Latin America; Brazil; Colombia.
