Abstract

SALGUERO VELASQUEZ, Alejandra. Identity, family responsibility and fatherhood exercise in the male population in the State of Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.48, pp.155-179. ISSN 2448-7147.

The objective of the present work is to analyze the process of identity construction in Mexican men, family responsibility and paternity. A qualitative investigation was carried out where 30 men of middle-high socioeconomic level, with children in school age, belonging to integrated families and whose couples realized remunerative jobs were interviewed. The results allowed us to identify the diversity and complexity of meanings of 'being a man'. It was found a close relationship between process construction of male identity and practice of paternity, a form of being father has to do with a peculiar way of being man.

Keywords : masculine identity; paternity; masculinity; gender; State of Mexico.
