Abstract

DE LA O MARTINEZ, María Eugenia. Geography of the feminine labour in the manufacturing industry in Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.49, pp.91-126. ISSN 2448-7147.

In this article is analysed the expansion of the manufacture industry in Mexico and its impact in the feminine labour. This leads to analyze the relation between the productive transnationalization and the feminization of the labour force as a historic and articulated fact. For doing this the geographical mobility of the manufacture industries and their distribution in three activity axes in the country for four decades are analyzed. Similarly, the articulation among the expansion of the manufacturer, the re-organization of the local work force and the search of labour supply with specific characteristics, as the feminine labour, is discussed. Some indicative elements of this process are the segmentation and polarization of the occupations and salaries in these regions according to the gender. Apart from the conformation of a labour segment clearly linked to sub-contracting chains and illegal workshops where large quantities of women are hired.

Keywords : manufacture industry; feminine labour; regions; industrial development; Mexico.
