Abstract

PLASCENCIA LOPEZ, Ismael. Proposal to measure the salary economic development: application in twelve of the main urban areas in Mexico, 1988-2002. Pap. poblac [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.52, pp.137-182. ISSN 2448-7147.

This article proposes the measurement of the salary economic development of the economically active population; in order to do so, twelve of the main urban areas of the country are analyzed, this with the aim to advance in the inequality analysis, making it finer and disaggregated. Having this in view, an index (IDES) which summarizes two components, the salary income in real terms (up to 2002 indicators) and the measurement of equality (versus inequality) through the Gini complement (1-coefficient of Gini) is constructed. For the IDES measuring the information from the National Survey of Urban Employment (1988-2002) was used. It is intended to demonstrate that the impact of the economic liberalization and commercial aperture take place in very differenced manners in the cities.

Keywords : economic development; cities; salary income; income inequality; Mexico.
