Abstract

HERNANDEZ-FLORES, José Alvaro et al. Rural and periurban: an approximation to the process of shaping urban periphery. Pap. poblac [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.61, pp.275-295. ISSN 2448-7147.

The aim of this article is to describe the process of shaping the territory of the city Puebla, México; which has experimented during the last decades an explosive and disordered urban growth, underpinned by the incorporation of territories that have been historically characterized by having a primarily agricultural vocation. However, despite the changes induced by the penetration of the process of urban dynamics many of these villages, located on the outskirts of the capital, continue having a lifestyle and an economic-productive configuration of rural character.

Keywords : periurbanization; suburban area; urban growth; lifestyle; rurality.
