Abstract
COURTIS, Corina and PACECCA, María Inés. Gender and migratory trajectory: migrant women and domestic work in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. Pap. poblac [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.63, pp.155-185. ISSN 2448-7147.
By combining the anthropological perspective with elements of migratory studies as well as gender studies, this work analyzes a series of interviews with women from Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru, who work as maids in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Under the hypothesis that gender intervenes as structuring category in the migratory process, we observe its incidence in pre-migration, migration and post-migration stages. We revised the intervention of other women along the migratory trajectories of our interviewees, from the decision of migrating to their insertion as maids, going through their settling in Buenos Aires, the sending of remittances and falial reunification. In particular, we pay attention to the implication on quality and the working conditions in the recipient place.
