In this work, carried out in the poor urban context of Chiapas, Mexico, the relationship among diabetes mellitus type 2, clinical depression and quality of life in adult men and women is analyzed from the gender perspective. The differentiated effect, evidenced by gender and age, of diabetes mellitus type 2 on the probability of clinical depression and its severity, as well as in the psychosocial aspects associated to the gender roles. Some explanations to the earlier mortality in the diabetic men are proposed.
