Abstract

ENTRENA-DURAN, Francisco. Global migrations and reterritorialization of local spaces: a three-dimensional approach. Pap. poblac [online]. 2012, vol.18, n.72, pp.9-38. ISSN 2448-7147.

Current world migrations are one of most important globalization factors. However, in the same way that the outcomes of globalization are mainly materialized at a local scale, such migrations have effects of variable intensity and magnitude on either local spaces pushing out or receiving them. These effects are viewed here as processes of reterritorialization of those spaces, which, as a result, undergo transformations, of changeable degree, analysed in the article from a perspective that includes the socio-economic, political-institutional and symbolic-cultural dimensions. Obviously these three dimensions act in a combined and interrelated way, but their different manifestations and characteristic are examined separately. The purpose of it is to carry out a systematic study on the local impacts of migrations, as well as specifying what one has to take into account about each one of the said dimensions when researching on the local effects of particular migrations. This way, the three-dimensional analytic structure proposed in this work becomes enough defined to constitute a methodological paradigm appropriate for the overall investigation of different concrete cases.

Keywords : global migrations; local spaces; glocalization; reterritorialization; socio-economic; political-institutional and symbolic-cultural dimensions.
