Abstract

AGUIRRE, Alejandro  and  VELA-PEON, Fortino. Infant mortality in México, 2010. Pap. poblac [online]. 2012, vol.18, n.73, pp.29-44. ISSN 2448-7147.

Using the method of children ever born and surviving by Brass, this paper estimates infant mortality rates (IMR) for 2010 at national level and for each one of the states of the country. Additionally, in order to depict a panorama of the levels and trends of this indicator, we estimate the IMR considering vital statistics and population censuses for the 1990-2005 period and for the same level of disaggregation. The results confirm, on one hand, the sustained decline of infant mortality in Mexico, and on the other, the need to continue considering indirect estimations of the IMR.

Keywords : infant mortality; demographic indirect methods; children ever born/children surviving method.
