Abstract

WELTI-CHANES, Carlos. Analysis of fertility in Mexico with data from the 2010 Census of Population and Housing. Pap. poblac [online]. 2012, vol.18, n.73, pp.45-76. ISSN 2448-7147.

The aim of this article is to present a series of measures of fertility derived from the 2010 census; among them the estimation of general and marital fertility based on information on the date of birth of last child, obtained through the extended questionnaire used in the census sample. The results are quite similar to those obtained using other sources of information such as the National Survey of Population Dynamics (ENADID) 2009. To illustrate the usefulness of census data to fertility analysis, the text also presents estimates based on the average number of children ever born by mother's age. Estimates are made for both the total female population and for groups classified by size of place of residence, level of education and ethnicity.

Keywords : fertility estimates; differential fertility; population census; Mexico.
