Abstract

DAVIA, María Ángeles  and  LEGAZPE, Nuria. Factores determinantes en la decisión de tener el primer hijo en las mujeres españolas. Pap. poblac [online]. 2013, vol.19, n.75, pp.183-212. ISSN 2448-7147.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the changes in the determinants of the decision to have the first child in Spanish women who were born between 1961 and 1980. We use the Fertility, Family and Values Survey of 2006, conducted by the Sociological Research Centre in 2006. The econometric technique deployed consists in different discrete-time duration models. The results show, among other things, that highly educated women and women from more recent cohorts are more likely to delay the first maternity. Besides, the educational attainment and paid employment delay more the first birth amongst women from recent cohorts.

Keywords : Fertility; duration models; educational attainment.
