Abstract

LEVEAU, Carlos M.. Examining the role of amenities and regional restructuring on Argentinean urban growth 1991-2001. Pap. poblac [online]. 2013, vol.19, n.78, pp.207-222. ISSN 2448-7147.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of amenities and regional restructuring on population growth in Argentinean cities greater than ten thousand people, during the period 1991-2001. Amenities cities recorded the greatest average relative population growth, while cities of new industrialization recorded the lowest population growth regarding to all cities considered in this study. Analyzing both groups of cities, a retirement immigration phenomenon was evident for amenity areas. These results were discussed related to different theoretical approaches that try to explain recent population deconcentration phenomenon recorded generally in developed countries.

Keywords : Amenities; regional restructuring; cities; Argentina; retirement migration.
