Abstract

RIVERA-SANCHEZ, Liliana; ODGERS-ORTIZ, Olga  and  HERNANDEZ, Alberto. International migration and religious diversity in the State of Morelos, Mexico: A sociodemographic overview. Pap. poblac [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.80, pp.47-85. ISSN 2448-7147.

The research in which this article is supported, is based on a sociological reflection related to the religious change. The tendencies of the religious change are explored in contemporary contexts of high population mobility, from a socio-demographical perspective. The aim consists in demonstrating the significant relationship between international migration and religious diversification in a region with high grade of migratory intensity. To get this objective we are analyzing the censal data of both religious profession and international migratory activity. Particularly, in this article the relationship between religious diversity and migratory activity to the U.S. is explored in the state of Morelos, specifically in the municipality of Tepalcingo, located at the southeast of this Mexican state in the central part of Mexico.

Keywords : Religious change; international migration; religious diversification; Morelos; Mexico.
