Abstract

MILLAN VAZQUEZ DE LA TORRE, Mª Genoveva; SANTOS PITA, Manuela del Pilar  and  PEREZ NARANJO, Leonor Mª. Analysis of women's labor market participation in Spain: evolution and socioeconomic determinants of getting a job. Pap. poblac [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.84, pp.197-225. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper analyzes the evolution of women's labor market participation in Spain and the socioeconomic determinants of the probability of finding a job in Spanish women. We used the Labour Force Survey (conducted by the National Statistics Institute) and conducted a survey among a total of 500 Spanish women. The number of employed and unemployed women in the last three quarters of 2014 is predicted using ARIMA models; the probability of finding a job is analyzed using logit models. Overall, the results show some recovery of the women's labor market participation in 2014. Younger women, those with higher education and those without children are more likely to find a job. Besides, this probability rises for part-time jobs y those in the tertiary sector.

Keywords : Women's labor market participation; glass ceiling; gender pay gap; Spain.
