Abstract

All societies are affected by population movements. The case of Argentina is important since it receives many migratory flows along its history, hosting thousands of immigrants within its borders. The general objective of this article is to contribute to the knowledge of the complex issue of immigration in Argentina. In particular, the article gives a demographic analysis in two specific moments: the Centenary and the Bicentenary of May Revolution (1810), milestone in the origin of an independent State. It compares and search for variations in migration volume, composition and distribution. This comparison in two different historical periods shows the particularities and similarities that acquires immigration in the country. This article uses mainly quantitative data, provided by national censuses, although also supplements the information with the rich literature published thereon.
