Abstract

ESCOTO, Ana  and  NAVARRETE, Emma Liliana. What to do to be NiNi? Recovering the peculiarities of young people who do not study and do not work in Mexico and El Salvador. Pap. poblac [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.96, pp.217-254. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2018.96.20.

This article aims to analyze separately the two events that conform the NEET condition (not studying and not working). We assume that this condition depends on individual, family and environmental characteristics, but the direction and order of occurrence of the two events condition the probabilities of becoming a NEET young person and denote different processes. We model sequential logistic models where we recovered the particularity of each event (school and work). We analyze comparatively Mexico and El Salvador trying to capture the economic and demographic specificities of each country. We use data for Mexico from the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey and for El Salvador from the Multiple Purpose Household Survey for 2014.

Keywords : NEET; youth; El Salvador; Mexico.
