Food insecurity and hunger jeopardize development of millions of people in the world. However, although paradoxically, overweight and obesity coexist with food insecurity due to the food habits of individuals. Mexico, the country with the highest incidence of obesity, bear with this burden. Through a sample of 518 customers of the Community Diners Program in Mexico City, the transition likelihoods among normal, overweight and obesity nutritional states are estimated according to the food insecurity levels in the household and the consumption food habits. The results support that food insecurity promotes the transition to overweight and household composition plays an important role. In addition, as dietary habits have gender-differentiated effects in transitions, the implementation of public policies for a timely nutritional education must continue.
