Abstract

LENTINI, Mercedes. Transformation of the social housing question: Main approaches and perspectives. The case of Argentina in the Latin American context. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.27, pp.661-692. ISSN 2448-6183.

In this paper we present a revision of the main approaches to study the housing problem as well as the different solutions that have been proposed in the past. We analyse documental sources which allow us to identify the following approaches: The hygienic approach as a response to the degraded housing conditions of the wage-earning class created by the industrial revolution; the central-sectorial approach adopted during a Welfare State period and the alternative and structural approaches which co-existed as a result of the hegemonic viewpoint. Finally, we reflect upon the urban-territorial and inclusive. In particular, we analyse the case of Argentina in the Latin American context.

Keywords : housing policy; social polici; human settlements; people habitat.
