Abstract

MALIZIA, Matilde. “We remain as prisoners inside the country”. Power and conflict in the construction of territory. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.63, pp.457-488.  Epub Oct 21, 2020. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20201559.

The installation of the largest gated community in Gran San Miguel de Tucumán agglomerate generated an unprecedented socio-spatial conflict in urban development. San Pablo Country Life and Golf project was built and occupied, for 90 years, by families belonging to an old sugar colony, Colonia Chazal. This article aims to describe, analyze and understand how the progress of closed urbanizations, in addition to influencing the way in which the agglomerate expands, reveals the existence of different territories linked to unequal power to build it.

Keywords : gated communities; inequality; change in land use; argentine northwest.
