Abstract
PENA-PUCH, Angelina; PEREZ-JIMENEZ, Juan Carlos; MUNGUIA-GIL, Alfonso and ESPINOZA-TENORIO, Alejandro. Social-ecological systems as a management unit: the case of Campeche fisheries, Mexico. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.65, pp.113-145. Epub May 06, 2021. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20211601.
The most used management unit in fisheries is limited to the target species and their associated species. Because spatial components can facilitate the understanding of the human-environment relationship, the objective of this study was to adapt a methodology to regionalize and characterize social-ecological systems (SES) for assessment and management of small-scale fisheries of Campeche, Mexico. Eight regions of the fishing SES were identified with a combination of unique characteristics from the biophysical context, the catch volume and fishing effort, and the fleet dynamics.
Keywords : spatial management; complex system; artisanal fisheries.
