Abstract

GARCES CARRILLO, Judith del Carmen  and  BARTORILA, Miguel Ángel. Monocentric and Polycentric Incidences of Residential Urbanism in the Fragmentation of Tampico, Mexico (1960-2015). Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.66, pp.441-472.  Epub Oct 04, 2021. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20211640.

The metropolitan expansion of Tampico observes a complex and diffuse urban panorama where the presence and proliferation of residential urban fragments manifest a diffuse image and of spatial fracture on the periphery. Using landscape ecology as a measurement instrument, the effect that these urbanizations generate between 1960 and 2015 is analyzed by obtaining the fragmentation index that evidence two different periods of urban growth: firstly, as a monocentric compact growth towards the 1990s, and secondly, as a growth with a fragmented trend towards the year 2015 with polycentric characteristics.

Keywords : fragmentation; expansion; closed urbanism; growth trends; fragmentation index.
