Abstract

CASTRO LUGO, David; RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Reyna Elizabeth  and  RAMOS LOBO, Raúl. Is there regional convergence in the gender wage gap in Mexico?. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.67, pp.685-717.  Epub Apr 25, 2022. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20211633.

The objective of the paper is to analyze the behavior of the gender wage gap, disaggregating formal and informal workers, and to contrast the existence of regional convergence, for the period 2005-2017 in Mexico. Applying the Oaxaca-Blinder methodology, wage gap measurements adjusted for composition effects are obtained and the existence of σ and β convergence among Mexican states is analyzed. The results provide evidence of σ, β and β-conditional convergence. It is identified that the explained component plays a more relevant role in formal workers, while the unexplained part plays a more relevant role in informal workers.

Keywords : gender; wage gap; convergence; econometrics; Mexico.
