Abstract

HEREDIA TELLES, Aide; PEREZ VERDIN, Gustavo; SERRANO FLORES, María Elena  and  AVILA MELENDEZ, Luis Arturo. The landscape approach as a forest policy foundation. The case of Mexico. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.69, pp.367-395.  Epub Oct 16, 2022. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20221759.

The landscape-based management approach represents a relevant alternative for the policy design for the sustainable management of natural resources, especially in the forestry sector. Based on bibliographic and documentary research, the main conceptions and theoretical scope of the concept are reviewed; as a case study, the design and operation of the French environmental policy are described and finally the case of Mexico is analyzed. The review evidences institutional weakness in the design and implementation of Mexican policies based on this approach.

Keywords : landscape; environmental policy; sustainable forest management.
