Abstract

VIRGILIO, María Mercedes Di; BRIKMAN, Denise  and  NAJMAN, Mercedes. Beyond Residential Borders: A Study of Segregation from Everyday Mobility. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.69, pp.427-456.  Epub Oct 16, 2022. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20221734.

An approach to urban segregation from the perspective of daily mobility is proposed. Through a quantitative study with primary data, we analyze the mobility practices for employment and education purposes of the inhabitants of different types of habitats in a segregated neighborhood of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA). We ponder whether mobility practices mitigate, or not, the effects of living in a segregated neighborhood. The results show that in their daily movements, the inhabitants of the different types of habitat tend to consolidate segregated urban experiences.

Keywords : daily mobility; segregation; habitat typology; Buenos Aires city.
