Abstract

GONZALEZ AVILA, María Paula; ESTRADA LUGO, Erin I. J.; ZAMORA LOMELI, Carla Beatriz  and  SALDIVAR MORENO, Antonio. Coffee growing, conservation and tourism in the Sierra Madre (Mexico): a look from cultural control. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.73, pp.931-960.  Epub Nov 13, 2023. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20231765.

The document analyses, from the theory of cultural control, the capacity of decision a group of coffee growers to participate in processes which aim to link them to the conservation project of the Natural Protected Area where they live. This capacity is conditioned by a very specific context which has facilitated rather than its acceptance, its integration into the culture of the group, as shown by the construction of their own touristic operation. The research was conducted through a case study in El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve (Mexico) between 2019 and 2020.

Keywords : tourism; culture; conservation; cultural control.
