The essay reflects on the nature, antecedents and characteristics of the 1836 Constitution of the Republic of Texas. This was a Constitution copied from the United States and involved the legal interregnum prior to the incorporation of Texas into the United States. This article explains the positive and negative elements of that magna carta and seeks to contextualize them culturally and historically.
