Abstract

GAMBOA SOLIS, Flor de María  and  OROZCO GUZMAN, Mario. De madres e hijas y nuevas maternidades. La ventana [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.36, pp.50-86. ISSN 1405-9436.

Postmodern or new maternities have removed from women the role of being the sole person who can be responsible for maternity, and also from being the affective supporter of the family. This is the case with homoparental families, or those conceived artificially, where children of gay or lesbian couples can be looked after and cared for maternally either by a man, or by a woman who was not the biological mother. In this respect, these maternities challenge the dominant ideologies of gender and also Western representations of the mother-daughter relationship that have traditionally been understood in terms of ravage. Maternity in postmodern families can thus speak to us about different symbolic articulations of femininity.

Keywords : maternity; psychoanalysis; mother-daughter relationship; homoparental families; culture.
