Abstract

ESTRADA IGUINIZ, Margarita. Residencia y convivencia en familias combinadas de la ciudad de México. La ventana [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.36, pp.225-256. ISSN 1405-9436.

The article studies the different ways in which a group of reconstituted families had settled the residence of their children. One of the characteristics of these families is that their members don't live in the same house. There are different residential arrangements, but the families that had been interviewed, mothers and their children usually live together. This promotes different ways of relationship between stepfather and their stepchildren, and stepmother and her husband's children. These differences can be understood from a gender perspective, when the mother is expected to take care, breed and educate her children. When the stepmother does this work, stepchildren reject her authority, and there are constant conflicts in daily life.

Keywords : reconstituted families; children residence; relationship stepparents/stepchildren; Mexico city.
