Abstract
TOQUERO HERNANDEZ, Marco Antonio and SALGUERO VELAZQUEZ, María Alejandra. Los significados de ser hombre asociados al consumo de sustancias psicoactivas. La ventana [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.38, pp.372-404. ISSN 1405-9436.
The study of substance abuse (SA), through Social Constructionism Theory, requires an understanding on how concepts and practice articulate. The objective of this research was to investigate the meanings of being a man, through a sa case study. A qualitative methodology was used; a narrative analysis was carried out within four axes of the subject's life history: sa in I) his family and environment, II) his emotional life, III) his peer context, and IV) his relation with the female figure. The results show that sa is 'naturalized' in the subject's family and environment. Inside his emotional life, it is a means to avoid feelings of vulnerability. In a peer context, it leads to acquiring recognition. Finally, it represents a means of control of the female figure. The analysis, from a gender perspective, shows sa as a resource to gain control and take over power.
