CARRILLO HERNANDEZ, Edith. THE ADOPTION PLACEMENT OF A CHILD: DISCOURSES AND PRACTICES OF SUPPORT ASSOCIATIONS TO PREGNANT WOMEN IN MEXICO. La ventana [online]. 2020, vol.6, n.51, pp.188-214. Epub Sep 16, 2020. ISSN 1405-9436. https://doi.org/10.32870/lv.v6i51.7056.
Research around adoption usually focuses on two subjects: children who are subjects of adoption and the people who adopt them. Little is known and reflected on the situation of women who decide not to be mothers by placing a child for adoption. Generally, women who decide to give up motherhood hide it, they want to avoid the social rejection that usually falls on those who for various reasons decide not to be mothers. Currently, these women have become more visible, since the anti-abortion campaign of conservative groups have created associations to help pregnant women who do not want or cannot be mothers. This article analyzes the discourses and practices present in five associations that provide support to pregnant women who choose to place a child for adoption and who serve as a link with the adoptive parents of these children.
