The article contains a reflection from the concrete practice of making video documentaries on anthropological research carried out and publhhed by CIESAS. An overview is made of prized concepts to traditional ethnography, such as "truth" and "fidelity", the different ways in which film has been used to document and record social life, and the pioneer use of documentary film in Mexican anthropological practice. T'articular stress is placed on the potential of multidisciplinary and team work to carry out video documentaries.
