Abstract

BARTOLOME, Miguel Alberto. Movimientos indios en América Latina: Los nuevos procesos de construcción nacionalitaria. Desacatos [online]. 2002, n.10, pp.148-166. ISSN 2448-5144.

The analysis and study of movements carried out by indigenous peoples -that is the native societies and cultures of the American continent- has to some extent emphasized the aspects of juncture and their capacity or incapacity to transform the situations of economic domination and cultural subordination undergone in the different states. In this essay the author seeks to identify these movements insofar as processes of nationality-building, understood as the quest to establish collective subjects that appeal to a shared social identity, based on one's own or on an adopted cultural tradition, and which seek to establish relations on equal terms with the other cultural groups that make up that particular State.
