This paper introduces new proposals for the study of Mayan writing.The authors have developed, for more than a decade, an analytical technique for reading and translating texts written in the Mayan language of Yucatán that are painted or engraved in diverse archeological records.Their proposals reflect the teachings of Joaquín Galarza in whose memory this article was written.
