Abstract

REYNOSO, Carlos. Towards Complexity via Network Theory: New Epistemological Lessons. Desacatos [online]. 2008, n.28, pp.17-40. ISSN 2448-5144.

This paper surveys the reciprocal impacts between Social Network Analysis and the new paradigm of complexity and chaos theories, as well as the emergence of scale-free network research in the twenty-first century. This study is embedded in the context of a history of the most momentous events in network theory and practice, from Euler to Barabási, used as a starting point to interrogate some critical epistemological issues from the viewpoint of contemporary social sciences.

Keywords : anthropology; social networks; complexity; formal models; epistemology.
