Abstract

CARBO, Teresa. La visibilización de un enemigo invisible: La influenza A (H1N1) en fotografías de prensa. Desacatos [online]. 2010, n.32, pp.1-2. ISSN 2448-5144.

This text analyzes two sets of photos that were taken in Mexico City during the sanitary emergency that the A (H1N1) flu caused in 2009. Some of them were published in the newspaper La Jornada; others were downloaded from a free access site in the Internet. The first group of images (signed) were made by the inhouse photo-journalists; in the second their autors used pseudonymus. On those images, the autor searches the varied individual behaviors and social reactions that were enacted in the face of the crisis. She also scrutinizes the different photographic gazes and visual styles there attested, as well as the most outstanding and repeated visual configurations that served to emblematize the invisible risk. Her analytic approach is semiotic, with some elements of linguistics, graphic design and proxemics.

Keywords : discourse analysis; health crisis; visual configurations; inequality; semiotics.
